What the work covers

Compliance problems rarely announce themselves. A regulator’s request, an anonymous report or an internal anomaly may be the first sign, and the steps taken in the following days can shape the outcome for the company and for individuals.

We advise on the response, carry out privileged internal investigations where the law allows, and represent companies and individuals in regulatory and criminal proceedings.

  • Responses to regulatory authorities and inspections
  • Internal investigations and document reviews
  • Anti-bribery, gifts and conflicts-of-interest policies
  • White-collar and regulatory defence
  • Employee interviews and disciplinary follow-up
  • Remediation, training and reporting obligations

When clients call us

  • A regulator has requested documents or an on-site visit is expected.
  • An internal report alleges misconduct by an employee or a business partner.
  • A director or employee has been detained or asked to attend an interview.

Preparing for a first consultation

Bringing the documents below to the first meeting usually makes the time more productive. If some are missing, send what you have and we will identify the gaps.

  • The notice, request or other document received from the authority.
  • A chronology of events and the key internal documents.
  • The names and roles of the people involved.
  • Any immediate deadline or travel restriction affecting the individuals.

How consultation fees work

A short call to the 24/7 line is free and is used to identify the next step. If you need more than that, we arrange a scheduled consultation. In-person consultations at our Jing’an office are charged by the hour; the hourly basis and the expected duration are confirmed in writing before the appointment.

In-person consultation

Billed by the hour

  • Review of the documents you send in advance
  • The in-person meeting, up to the time booked
  • A written summary of the main points and next steps

The hourly rate, the expected duration and the scope of the consultation are confirmed in writing before the appointment. VAT, official fees, translation, notarisation and other disbursements are charged separately. Matter work that follows a consultation — drafting, filings, negotiation or court work — is scoped and quoted separately. How consultations work.

Questions we are asked

Is an internal investigation confidential?

Confidentiality depends on who commissions the work and the legal framework that applies. We explain the position at the outset so that the company and the individuals understand what can be protected.

Can you represent both the company and an individual?

Only where there is no conflict of interest. Where a conflict exists, separate counsel should be appointed, and we will say so before accepting the instruction.
