What the work covers

Brand protection in China starts before a dispute: the filing strategy, the goods and services covered, the evidence of use and the agreements with distributors and manufacturers all shape the position later.

We handle filing and portfolio work, opposition and invalidation, licensing and enforcement, and coordinate patent work with registered patent agents.

  • Trademark searches, filings and portfolio strategy
  • Opposition, invalidation and review proceedings
  • Copyright and design protection questions
  • Licensing, assignment and coexistence agreements
  • Cease-and-desist, platform takedowns and enforcement
  • IP litigation and customs recordal

When clients call us

  • A brand is preparing to launch in China and needs its filing strategy settled.
  • A copycat product or a similar mark has appeared in the market.
  • A licensing or manufacturing agreement needs IP ownership and confidentiality terms clarified.

Preparing for a first consultation

Bringing the documents below to the first meeting usually makes the time more productive. If some are missing, send what you have and we will identify the gaps.

  • The mark, logo or product images and the classes of goods or services.
  • Existing registrations, applications and evidence of use.
  • Samples, listings or other evidence of the infringement.
  • The commercial priority: stop the conduct, recover damages or secure the brand.

How consultation fees work

A short call to the 24/7 line is free and is used to identify the next step. If you need more than that, we arrange a scheduled consultation. In-person consultations at our Jing’an office are charged by the hour; the hourly basis and the expected duration are confirmed in writing before the appointment.

In-person consultation

Billed by the hour

  • Review of the documents you send in advance
  • The in-person meeting, up to the time booked
  • A written summary of the main points and next steps

The hourly rate, the expected duration and the scope of the consultation are confirmed in writing before the appointment. VAT, official fees, translation, notarisation and other disbursements are charged separately. Matter work that follows a consultation — drafting, filings, negotiation or court work — is scoped and quoted separately. How consultations work.

Questions we are asked

Should we file in China before launching?

Yes, in most cases. China follows a first-to-file system, and an early filing is usually cheaper than recovering a mark that someone else has registered. The classes and the Chinese transliteration should be considered at the same time.

Do you handle patent prosecution?

We coordinate patent work with registered patent agents and handle the legal and enforcement side, including ownership, licensing and disputes.
